Fanatic movie fans will get troubled when they make choice between DVD and Blu-ray. And some people got into a state of panic when they find that their DVD collections are almost worthless. Well, IS DVD DYING?

Obviously, DVD is the 'happy medium' comparing with Blu-ray, disc rentals, Video on demand and online streaming downloads. In a relative low price, DVD is superiors to Video on demand or streaming because the later two options cannot build a movie collection. And DVD is always available sooner than others. What is more, DVD disc-based media is portable (Rip DVD to iPod is included) and transportable while network is necessary when using streaming service.

It might be a leading trend that Blu-ray will replace DVD sooner or later. 1080p full-HD quality gives best performance on larger than 34' HDTV. Another primary advantage of Blu-ray is the disc surface coating technology, which unlike DVD who need a tender care or backup. However, consumers will spend the most on DVDs within a few years of buying their first DVD player. And unfortunately, after 18 months Sony and Toshiba's post DVD war appeased, they have sold less than 1 million Blu-ray players, combined. And this is why Blu-ray would be bound to - its price.
